did the sontarans create the SMASH robots?,
This review is from: Doctor Who - The Sontaran Experiment [DVD] (DVD)
i like many people originally saw this story when released with Genisis of the Daleks years back now.
I must admit, that even with the knowledge that Baker had severely injured himself making this story, it did not detract from his acting ability, let us not forget that this was the third baker story to be aired.
The only thing that did let the production down was the robot, well, the design of it, but other than that, this is an excellent story. if it wasn't for the humans in the Ark (previous story) and the very small group of survivors on the planet, would the doctor have done anything to stop the sontaran invasion (as basically, there was very little to conquer!!)
I can also see that this story was best made as a two parter, as it just worked, if it had been stretched to a four parter, then perhaps the story may have failed.
Sladen's Sarah Jane Smith was perhaps starting to show her strengths in this story, compared to the other two stories that she had been in with Baker, and the late Ian Marter's Harry Sullivan was very much the 'hero' which was a good upturn for him, pity the character only stayed for three more stories as a regular travelling companion.
Story/plot excellent; acting excellent; robot dire; everything else excellent.
