This review is from: Passage To Juneau: A Sea and Its Meaning (Paperback)
My first experience of reading Jonathan Raban - I bought a couple more of his books after finishing "Passage".
Having visited Seattle and Juneau / Glacier Bay and believing that coastline to be one of the most beautiful parts of the world that I have seen, I was drawn to this book. I was rewarded by a fascinating account of his trip in the wake of Captain Vancouver on his mapping expedition of that coast.
Not merely a travel book, his writing draws in a lot historical anecdotes (inevitably) but also moody, and sometimes rather moving, introspections on a variety of topics.
