This review is from: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Considering the problems during production, The Final Frontier is far from terrible. I personally like the spiritual plot showing how people can be manipulated by charismatic 'Evangelists'. The major plot holes/continuity (reaching the galactic center in 6.5 hours at Warp 7, Spock having a half brother, a knackered Enterprise being sent on a hostage rescue mission) but the heart is still there (something that is rather lacking in the Next Gen Movies). One of the highlights is the glorious musical score, the best in the film series. Some of the cords during Sybocks 'Sha Ka Ree' speech are trully stunning.
If only more money was spent on effects and Shatners original ending was completed, this would have been one of the very best 'Treks'
As for the Blue Ray itself. There are plenty of interesting extras to get your teeth into. The picture quality is excellent although the sound is poorly balanced. As is so often the case with 'remasted' films, the dialog is too quiet whereas the action and music too loud. This is particularly bad for the whole series, particularly the later films.
