Patronising book which fails to cover PHP properly,
By A Customer
This review is from: Web Application Development with PHP (Book & CD Rom) (Paperback)To call me disappointed in this book would be an understatement.
This book reads like it was written by a couple of computer science undergraduates who want to show the world the importance of software engineering.
Fair enough, but all these concepts should be familiar to its expected readership. And the tone is completely patronising.
Moreover, while some of the information on PHP is good, it is _not_ a reference guide - as that it is woefully inadequate. It is badly indexed. It introduces items with no reference or hint as to where they come from. It is incomplete.
This is _not_ a book on PHP - it is a bad book on software design with some PHP in it.
The only people I would recommend this book to are those who've done a little HTML, no programming beyond 10-line trivia, and have decided that they want to be a web-developer, because they think it sounds cool/pays well.
