The flour babies are about a class of boys in the bottom set who get a sack of flour to look after. There is one boy called Simon Martin, aged 14-15 years, who gets really involved and the flour baby changes the way he thinks about his life.
Simon Martin chooses child development for the school fair, so 4C end up doing babies. The task is to look after the sacks of flour for four weeks and they must keep their flour babies clean. Simon keeps everyone on the project by telling them there will be a glorious explosion in the classroom. Because the class are loud, disorderly and stupid they believed that there would actually be an explosion. When the flour babies were handed out, Simon's had a little bonnet and sweet eyes, whereas everyone elses was just a plain sack of flour. Simon immediatly likes his flour baby and knows she
