Exactly What A Junior Dressmaker Needs!,
This review is from: The Sewing Book (Hardcover)
This book is highly recommended for anyone who wants all their basic sewing information in one place - everything is explained clearly and with lots of helpful diagrams and photos, and the difficulty level is perfectly pitched (not too complex but not not too patronisingly vague).
I was particularly impressed by the 'projects' section at the end, suggesting step-by-step instructions for what you can make with your new-found skills (not that I need extra help suggesting pretty things to make myself, however!). The projects have been carefully selected for those things which look extremely polished and professional but which only really rely on a few easy techniques; for example, a piped-edge bolster cushion. The one I made is sitting on my sofa right now and always gets compliments, even though it was made in half an afternoon from some old curtains!
Overall, an impressive and informative book - would make an excellent present for any beginner.
