Just a point of clarification from Scotland: there is no such thing as a UK NHS. There are separate health services in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The NHS that is under threat is the National Health Service of England.
The Scottish Health Service was founded at the same time as the English National Health Service and has always been a separate organisation. The marketisation of the Scottish Health Service initiated in the early 1990s by the Conservative UK Government was reversed by the re-instated Scottish Parliament under a Labour/LibDem coalition - led Executive. GP fundholding was abolished in 2001 and the trusts disbanded between 2004-2005.
