This review is from: Doctor Who - Mini Radio Control Dalek Battle Pack (Toy)
I bought this as a Christmas present for my 21 year old brother (y'know, boys and their toys). I was really excited about it as I knew he'd get quite a bit of play value from it. However, it didn't work out like that.
Firstly, this toy requires TWELVE AAA batteries. Yep, twelve, three in each controller and three in each Dalek. I made sure I got a decent battery as I didn't want it to wear out so that was practically the cost of half the present again!
Secondly, the daleks aren't very easy to control. They have a left and a right toggle. To go forwards, you push both at the same time or end up wobbling forward in a very un-dalek way.
My brother and I played with them on the coffee table and they went reasonably well on the wooden surface. They didn't like the kitchen floor and forget carpet! After ten minutes of use, the black one decided to stop moving. All it could do was sit there while the gold one fired at it. Apparantly, this is pretty common with this set. Also, due to erratic controls, one of the daleks fell off the table (a height of about 60cm) and broke. I can't imagine it lasting very long in the hands of a child.
If I had gotten this for a child as a present, I would be extremely disappointed. As it was, these Dalek's DESERVE to be exterminated!
