Quatermass - a fitting end,
This review is from: Quatermass : The Complete TV Series (3 Disc Box Set) [DVD] (DVD)
For those who remember, Nigel Kneal's Quatermass was one of the TV greats of the 70's. The John Mills portrayal of an elderly Quatermass in a Britain consumed by anarchy is a fitting conclusion to the quartet.
It had been over 20 years since the first airing of this Granada production. Would it still hold after all this time? Yes, I found it most definitely does.
On many levels this underplayed, almost anti-hero, draws the viewer into a plot which grows from his personal search on to saving mankind. The scenes of desolation combined with the frustration at what Britain has become are a haunting background to the danger threatening the human race.
You could watch the first two episodes on one evening and then wait to see the second DVD the next day – but I bet you won't! Make the time to watch the whole 4 hours, with just a snack break between.
This 3 DVD set is a chance to own an important piece of TV history which is also very worth watching.
