5.0 out of 5 stars The seige of Mokia, 8 Jan 2014
By
This review is from: Alcatraz versus the Shattered Lens (Paperback)
Despite the humorous tone suggesting there is far more to come in Alcatraz's story this novel is ostensibly the final volume of the series. It possesses all the hallmarks that characterised the previous three and is just as much fun; sure to make any reader laugh at some point.

If you've read the previous three books (which the author continues to tease the reader about) you will be used to the quite unique style of first person approach adopted by the author. In addition to this the author (be it Alcatraz or Sanderson) has some fun with the chapter numbering/titles. Frequently chapters are `missed out' of the book and then referred to as if the reader should know their contents. Although this might sound annoying it is actually quite entertaining and adds to the story rather than lessens it.

This volume sees Alcatraz attempt to save the land of Mokia from librarian invasion. Most of the action, therefore, takes place in the besieged city of Tuki Tuki. As in the previous novels, more members of Alcatraz's extended family and their Smedry talents are introduced, usually to highly amusing affect.

There are several storyline elements that lack a satisfying resolution but these hardly come as unexpected. It is, after all, due to the nature of these novels. They are designed to mess with the conventions of writing, make fun of the craft and tease the reader. As far as these aspects are concerned, this book is a triumph.
