This review is from: Around The Sun (Limited Edition) (Audio CD)
Even when I read on the band's website that this double cd is limited to only 500 copies, I couldn't quite believe it, but there it is in black & white (or rather, gold and silver) on the back of the gatefold sleeve 'strictly limited edition number --- of 500'. The case seems to have been signed by the band as well.
'Around The Sun' was received with fairly lukewarm reviews when it was released, which I don't understand, as it's really great, a cd of slick dance-pop in a similiar style to Zoot Woman or Miike Snow, and catchy as hell.
The album's running time is just over 49 minutes. This edition comes with a bonus disc which totals around 31 minutes and contains the following tracks:
2. Design For Life
4. We Were Young
5. It Must Be Love
6. Same Old You
7. The Phoenix Alive (Acoustic Version)
Apart from its possible rarity value, is it worth splashing out for the limited edition? Well...yes, yes it is.
The bonus disc lacks the cohesion of the album, which is understandable, and the Manic's cover is totally redundant, although it does answer the question that many of us have pondered of an idle hour, 'I wonder what 'Design For Life' would sound like if it was covered by 10cc?'. However, for me, track five 'It Must Be Love' (not a cover of the Labi Siffre/Madness song!) is the highlight of 'Around The Sun'. I just find myself playing it again and again, and for that track alone, I recommend the limited edition.
