This review is from: The Sex Lives of Misfits (Kindle Edition)
The Sex Lives of Misfits is an often hilarious, sometimes thought provoking insight into the mind and life of a beach-bar worker in the Caribbean. Frank Genoa recounts a unique mixture of anecdotes, memories and philosophical insights. He introduces a fascinating and amusing variety of characters, most of whom are clients at the Irish bar in which he works, some of whom are amateur philosophers from his current and past life. There are leading characters, such as the Rocket Man, whose San Francisco self-sustaining hippy life culminates in a helium powered disappearance into the ether, accompanies only by a six pack of beer and his dog, Jesus. Or there is the Mocha Goddess, a bar fly never afraid to supply her opinion on the lifestyles of others. Genoa's book takes us on an autobiographical account of his younger life in the United States and on to a driftwood home in a Caribbean mosquito swamp, where he lives while battling with authority at work and pressures to settle down and get a "proper" job and home, instead of making a living mowing lawns selling roadside junk he finds while travelling on his ride-on lawnmower.
A very funny, insightful first book!
