5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable ADF scanner - great to clean up our office, 21 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Document Scanner (Accessory)
Have a Canon MPX7600 all-in-one printer with ADF scanner of 35 pages. Before that owned an HP6110 Officejet all-in-one with ADF. The HP 6110 ADF was useless. The Canon ADF works ok for small quantities, but duplex scanning was really slow, and ADF would pull in double pages fairly frequently, so it needed a lot of attention. Took a year to finally decide to buy the S1500M based upon rave review around the net.
I use it to scan/archive business documents and courses. Only had it for 3 days, but scanned the full APICS CPIM course I took years ago. This are about 2500 pages that are 15 years old A4 printouts in good condition. I had 3-4 times that 2 pages were fed the same time, but the system detects it and offers you the option to rearrange the pages, and just continue scanning where you left. This is a great feature ! The Canon MPX7600 system had this issue a lot more, and forced you to restart the whole scan.
Soft setup also allows you to choose to do the 'searchable pdf processing' when you save the document, so you don't have to do it per scanned batch of 50 pages - that saves time too. I am actually typing this review while he is again processing another course of 250 pages. Scanning 250 pages takes about 10 min, and the pdf processing takes another 3-6 minutes.
The S1500M Mac software also allows you to scan to append current doc, this means you can let the S1500M finished his 50 page scan, and it will wait for the next batch of papers to add to it - no more stress to add extra pages to the ADP input tray - and frequently miss it so having to merge several parts of the same documents together.
So to sum up: 1) ADF max 50 pages is maybe lower than wished for but does the job; 2) Seems to be reliable and effective; 3) software helps archiving jobs more effective.

Downsides ? Find it a bit expensive, compared to the All-In-Ones, but guess that's because there are no printer cartridges to make up margin. Seems every 100.000 scans you should buy new rollers. Hope they will remain available for a good long time, as the ADF efficiency is dependant on it.

So, as a 3rd purchase to convert my archive into electronic documents, the Fujitsu does the job, where HP and Canon failed.
