Shaken and stirred - uplifting,
This review is from: Their Spirits, My Demons: Thirty Years of Booze, Bruises and Broken Hearts (Paperback)
I found this fascinating, at times extremely entertaining, with some great references for people of my age (thirty something) particularly, and extremely interesting from a point of view of how alcohol/addictive behaviour can affect families - that can resonate to both those who have or have not experienced it first hand.
Everybody has a `model airplane moment' of irrational regret in their past, everyone has been in a conundrum where heart and head battle where family is concerned. This book highlights them with painful, detailed re-enactment but also with humour and resilience.
It is a challenging book that makes you examine your own fallibilities and face your morals and behaviours within the situations that arise. So many positives can be found emanating from some bizarre and emotionally straining episodes. I found myself curiously drawn to the characters, despite their flawed natures, and even more so moved when the author himself found it hard to be. It also has a powerful, if somewhat eerie, aspect at it's ending.
Read, examine, learn and add to your understanding of the world we're living in - I highly recommend this illuminating biography and await more from this first time author.
