This review is from: [Upgraded Quality] Anker Astro E5 16000mAh Compact Portable Charger (2nd Generation, Premium Panasonic Battery Cells Inside, External Battery Power Bank) with PowerIQ Technology (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
When i was researching to buy one of these units i found many of the reviews not too clear as to which battery they had, which device they connected it to nor how exactly the device was used during the period it was connected to the battery unit. Therefore, i am writing this very specific review of how i find the Anker 15000mAh Astro E5 unit. I hope it helps. . . .
I use an ipad mini (original version) for in flight navigation (using Air Navigation Pro) in the cockpit of a light aircraft. I have the 3g ipad so i use the in-built GPS receiver continually during the flight. I set off with the ipad and the 15000mAh Anker Astro E5 both fully charged and with the Anker unit connected to the ipad from the start and the screen display continually on (no screen saver or blank screen automatically activated and at full brightness. After almost 8 hours continual use the ipad still showed 100% charge and the Anker unit had 3 of 4 lights still lit. For safety sake, i always charge the unit overnight, just in case, but i am certain i could have enjoyed another full day of use out of the unit without having to recharge it. I have also previously flown with the ioad connected to the in built 12v jack on the cockpit console, but find it still discharges over the course of a few hours, so this is definitely a better solution.
I couldn't be more pleased with this device and recommend it whole-heartedly. As with other reviewers, i also find that the torch light button is in a badly positioned place and often activate it by accident, or when putting the Anker unit back in its little carry bag (which was included in the box, by the way). I hope they improve this on newer models, perhaps with a simple slide switch? Anyway, it's a small thing and doesn't take away form the main purpose of the battery, which is to charge my device and which it does very well indeed.
