Seinfeld 2? No, this is better......,
This review is from: Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
I suspect like most people, I bought this item on the coat-tails of the unique and brilliant Seinfeld. To begin with, C.Y.E. seems a million miles from the canned laughter of the sit-com Seinfeld. Larry David (co-creator of Seinfeld and star of the show) improvises a bare bones script in real-life settings with his real-life family and friends. The only recognizable actor is Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld's 'Elaine') and she plays herself. So at first glance, you think this is a radical departure from your beloved Seinfeld -- especially when the profanity starts to flow. Take a deeper look, however, and you'll find those great stories about 'nothing' from Larry David's first television show. For example, in the very first episode we have 'The Pant's Tent' instead of, say, 'The Puffy Shirt.' Just like in Seinfeld, entire 30 minute shows revolve around something inconsequential, such as the way pants can conspicuously pitch-up around the groin area when you sit down.
By not operating as a traditional sit-com, C.Y.E. is better than Seinfeld. Gritty realism is added to the genius storylines from Seinfeld and the show is all the better for it. When you watch this show, you know you’re not watching someone in a sterile studio with 3 walls and no ceiling. And you know that Larry David is more real than Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer combined.
