This review is from: Max Payne (PC CD) (Video Game)
A must for anyone who has seen the matrix and wanted to re-enact it (ok, so that's mainly 15-25 yr old males- but the game is good for everyone else too.)
Well, what can i say- bullit time is a bit of a gimmick that is never fully explained (Max is an ordinary cop. Why has he got this power?)- but it's a useful gimmick especially towards the end... and for those with a sick mind, who like to beat people with a baseball bat in slow motion.
There's a range of weapons that the T'ban would love to get their hands on, ranging from lead pipe to grenade lauchers.
The control system is based on your standard 1st person shoot em up, the mouse controls the direction of sight and the buttons either fire or activate bullit time, while the clever use of the intellimouse scroller lets you change weapons.
Generally, the gameplay's great. The story developes further at the end of each chapter (surprise, surprise- with each one you complete, you find that you've got the wrong person), and has some really surreal moments. (When Payne's drugged- walking on blood trails with nasty screams and children crying in the background -the sign of a messed mind. Remeber kids, don't do acid!)
The only thing this game is lacking is a multiplayer support- imagine being able to redo the subway scene from the matrix!
Overall, worth the price. But to avoid boredom, skip the graphic novel bits...
