Want to know why they were in the vault?,
This review is from: The Vault...: Old Friends 4 Sale (Audio CD)
I'm a Prince obsessive, and have always been intrigued by tales of Prince's legendary "vault" - a place where he has well over five hundred songs written, recorded, and stashed away, seemingly never to see the light of day. I was overjoyed when this album was announced, bought it on the day of release, listened to it once, and then threw it away in disgust. Simply put, it was dire.
Since then I've bought another copy, and again listened to it once, but this time didn't throw it away. The main problem with the album is that the songs just aren't very good at all with the exception of "Old Friends 4 Sale", and this was yet another of Prince's notorious "contractual obligation" albums - released in a hurry simply so he could satisfy the requirements of his deal with Warner Brothers. Nothing here really stands up to his best output, and the album is a curiosity at best, destined to be one for the fans to buy simply so they can say they own it. This was almost his creative nadir.
