Where's the scope version,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: King Of The Khyber Rifles [DVD] (DVD)
I have been waiting for this spectacular widescreen adventure film to come out on DVD for some time. Now that it is being advertised as an October release, I couldn't wait for it to come out, until that is, I noticed that Pegasus plans to release it in a 1:33:1 aspect ratio version instead of it's original 2:55:1. This means they will chop at least three-quarters of the film's aspect ratio, leaving purchasers with just a small square picture, the very centre of the film to look at on our large wide-screen TV's. How can they get away with this? Why do they want to do that? It's going to seriously affect their sales as I and many, many others will not contemplate buying their DVD's in that butchered state. Surely this goes against the Trades Description Act as this film was made in 2:55:1 and boasts Cinemascope on the cover picture. The four stars are for the film itself not it's disappointing aspect ratio. Well Pegasus, here's one potential buyer you've lost even before the DVD is out.

I have just purchased a dvd copy of King of the Khyber Rifles which has the ratio of 2.35.1 distributed by Elm Street Media, not Pegasus as advertised on Amazon. I purchased the dvd from a shop called Head dvds, cds, in Bromley Kent, sadly they do not have a website.

Thanks for the information T. A., could you say if it's the same cover and issue as that advertised on Amazon?

Yes the same cover, good quality picture, widescreen 2.35.1 ratio not 4.3 as advertised by Amazon, issued by Elmstreet media [not Pegasus] as Fox Classics. Hopefully there is more to come.Perhaps Amazon have made a mistake as King of the Khyber Rifles is not listed on the Pegasus website.

Mr. Michael R. Evans says:
Hi T.A. Goodall. Thanks for your contribution. Are you able to discern if the soundtrack is in stereo or mono? (The box may state this or it may not). The Australian release was in mono and the Spanish release was in stereo. Both PAL and the image looked to be similar ,possibly the same print. Both were in Letterbox format, like the UK release. Thanks.Mike Evans

Just a note - Pegasus is a subsidiary of Elmstreet - same company.
