Great music, room for improvement in this release,

(...)P>Yes the picture looks great and the music is as timeless as ever but the directors cut doesn't improve on the last version. The extra interviews with the band are great and much welcome but only slow down the film and leave you waiting for it to get back to the concert. I'm not saying these extras aren't worth watching but they would have been better left as 'extras'. A compilation of the interviews with the band as a whole would have been a better option.
The added space scenes have replaced some of the greatest scenes of the original (the slow zoom into the band at the beginning of echoes) and look, well, 'cheap'. I assume this is the reason for the lack of 5.1 sound, it really looks like this was done on a budget.
OK, the orignal version is still there but only in a 4.3 aspect instead of the 16.9 directors cut.
Having said that, I couldn't have done without it but will probably stick to the original version for future viewings.
