it just doesn't compare :-(,
This review is from: Naamah's Kiss (Paperback)
The first trilogy (starting with Kushiel's dart) is a great read - 5 fully deserved stars.
The 2nd series (featuring Imriel) was a good read - 4 (slightly grudging) at times stars.
This, the first in what looks like a 3rd trilogy is extremely pedestrian by comparison.
The main character, Moiran is just bland - I couldn't care one way or another about her.
The decision making power of her inner soul is the laziest plot device ever, and as another reviewer has comment the sex scenes just seem very tawdry and meaningless compared to the other books.
The plot lumbers along, it's readable enough don't get me wrong. but it doesn't have the heart stopping qualities of her previous efforts. It all just seems too easy, there are no shades of grey people are just good or bad.
It is set in the future compared to the other books, but the constant references back to the previous adventures were also a bit contrived and made it seem like the adventures of Phedre et al were the only events of note in the history of a continent and several peoples.
To me it just feels formulaic and she needs to stop flogging this particular horse and move on.
I'm glad i didn't buy this book, and i won't buy the sequel (although i will read it if my friend forks out the cash like she did for this one!)
