As a lover of many classics ranging from Pride and Prejudice to On The Road I did not really enjoy this book.
First of all, have a think about whether you enjoy plot and action driven books, if yes, you might not like this. If you enjoy a sound structure and something you're familiar with, you might not like this either. If you like one main character driving the plot, you might not like this. (Yossarian is certainly the main character, but there are so many characters in this novel and there are many different viewpoints.)
This is something different. The novel's excessive love of contradictions and paradoxes is overdone for me and the thematic points it's making are rammed home somewhat repetitively. In the end, the constant stream of irrationality, contradictions and lack of structure became tedious for me personally. It was certainly not a page turner.
I see some similarities with the even bleaker 1984, but I think 1984 is a better book.
I honestly think it would have worked better as a short story or at least a shorter novel.
