This review is from: Duplicity [DVD] (DVD)
I generally don't mind a complicated plot or multiple characters in a movie, usually it keeps me interested. But I don't like complexity just for the sake of it and this movie was just unnecessarily complex. As a result it bored me intensely. The two lead characters appear to be some kind of special agents and working for competing firms, but I never really figured it out - and really I had no desire to figure it out. The jumping back and forward from present time to the past was also another layer of distraction.
As well as there being no chemistry at all between the two lead characters, and neither of them were looking particularly attractive - this movie has nothing going for it.

That's not layers of distraction, that's what this film is about. Stop rating films you don't understand. Roberts and Owen have terrific chemistry by the waym which also showed in the film Closer.

As you say.... you 'never really figured it out'.
I thought it was an enjoyable and interesting film, unlike most Hollywood rubbish, you just had to pay attention for a couple of hours!
