This review is from: Sheppard: Sacred Choral Music (Audio CD)
The Catholicism of John Sheppard may have been a burden on his life. His hidden works were not deciphered until the 70's. His compositions have been brought to life and conveyed in this concise and beautification of his works, presented by the choir of St. Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh. Their delivery is without fault. I am not a technical scholar of the music, just a passionate listener, and this is sheer joy. The compositions are interpreted in such a bountiful mode that transcends into another idiom. The songs' purity and sheer beauty are instantly and continuously fed to the ear. All I have to say is that this is glorious and sacred polyphony at the supreme level. A triumph and an exalting production of Sheppard's works by an exemplary choir. The comprehensive accompanying notes tell more than I can, but all I want to say is that this is absolute sublime beauty.
