This review is from: A Murder is Announced (BBC Radio Collection) (Audio CD)
This was the first time I heard June Whitfield's assumption of the character of Christie's Miss Marple. She is very good - clear, articulate and shrewd if a little detached at times. I love 'Murder Is Announced' , its easily my favourite Marple and the BBC have done a good job here. The dramatisation is largely faithful, with the major exception of the cutting of the Swettenhams, and generally works very well. Additional voices are well done on the whole. I particularly liked Ian Lavender as Craddock and the ladies who voiced Miss Blacklock and Miss Bunner. I expect it is very easy to 'overdo' the role of Mitzi, the excitable cook and it is overdone here but its a very small flaw. I was completely enthralled from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it.
