This review is from: Make it Happy: A short guide to long term relationships (Kindle Edition)
This excellent self-help book is written in the format of a conversation between the two authors John Hill and Sadie Wolf, who are themselves a couple, as they explore and offer insights into the hotbed areas of relationships such as Money, Sex, Housework, Love and Fidelity.
Ideas such as how to deal with the toilet seat issue without seeming like nagging, and that it's OK to be a slob around the house in track suit bottoms as long as you make the effort to dress up at other times, are muted along with the importance of having that conversation about money before you move in together. And indeed ensuring good communication with each other is the theme throughout.
The authors are open and honest as they share and analyse their own past experiences in an effort to shed light on their present relationship with each other. This is conveyed in a comfortable and laid-back style where although the topics are intimate at times, one never feels like a voyeur, but like an accepted third party in the room. Written primarily for those in long-term relationships, it will in fact greatly benefit all who are in any kind of romantic relationship.
The overall message of the book is comforting as John says "Trying to be perfect is pointless." Hear Hear.
