Perfect cult television with less than perfect extras,

This review is from: Quantum Leap - Series 1 [DVD] (DVD)
Quantum Leap is one of those little gems that you accidentally discover one day and become immediately hooked. It's likely that not many people will have heard of it, and that's whats so nice about. It's a light, entertaining TV series from the late 80's telling the story of Sam Beckett, a time traveller who leaps from different times and bodies to a new adventure every weekend, aided by his womanising, hilarious hologram friend Al. What really makes this show is its undeniable charm. It's cheesy, its ridiculous, and in places its very dated, but it doesn't take itself seriously, and this makes the show something that keeps you entertained and amused, and in a day where most programmes are either unfunny or just plain terrible, its nice to have a programme thats just harmless and fun. Those who love cult TV will love this visually cool and cleverly scripted piece of quality american TV, and is definitely a DVD to buy then lend to your friends. It's just a shame that Universal couldn't put more effort into this DVD. It's gorgeously packaged, but there are few extras. the documentary is insightful, and the trivia features with star Scott Bakula interesting, but you can't help feeling that if the original cast were willing to come back for these features, why couldn't they record some amusing, bantery commentaries? The absence of more extras is a minor flaw however, in an overall excellent DVD set. Buy it, love it, share it.
