Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The C++ Programming Language (Paperback)
I've got all editions of this book.
I hoped this one would be better but it's not really (apart from the code font).

Like everyone else (probably) I bought this book to learn about C++11.
However, whatever I want to know about, it never seems like the section I look up has sufficient coverage; I never quite seem to get the meat. As a result, it's unsatisfying. The information may well be in here but if it is it's spread thinly and everywhere. I never get the feeling I can fold down a page or insert a sticky for that section I go back to again and again.

It's not a tutorial and it's not a reference so what is it exactly?

It's heavy though. Well done there.

Hey there, just came back to check reviews on here, as I'd written one and I find it quite interesting that you seemed to have the complete opposite experience with this book than I did.

I found the book to be a good reference and in places a good tutorial.

But if I maybe so bold, if you've not, why not try to get a hold of the latest edition of "The C++ Standard Library: A Tutorial and Reference" by Josuttis, it maybe more what you were seeking on the tutorial front and it contains all the STD input for C++11 at a glance.

A fascinating review though, when contrasted with my own experience, thanks for posting :)
