great box set.BUT the usb is a big problem for me,i got stone roses box set the usb in that plays on my hifi system,laptop,tv,car stereo this does not play on these devices only my laptop which is great if you like to listen to music through crap speakers.otherwise its a nice package of great music but the usb is a bit poor.

It probably won't play on your external devices as the music is encoded in FLAC format, a lossless music encoding format which is vastly superior to MP3. Apple devices and many stereo devices aren't compatible with FLAC (which is basically very sloppy of the equipment manufacturer).

You basically have archive quality recordings on that USB stick, and the fact that James have decided to include FLAC files with the box set is to me one of its major selling points. There are many ways to convert these files to MP3 if you so wish. A good guide is available here:

There is an mp3 directory there with the albums in as well.. encoded at 320. Maybe your system can't go down too deep into the hierarchy. You could try moving the album directories from the mp3 folder into the root of the usb and see if that works.

Or you could just drag the files onto your own USB stick. In any case that media will need backing up onto something else in the event of failure so move it now and keep the james usb for posterity.
