This review is from: Fortress Malta: An Island Under Siege 1940-1943 (CASSELL MILITARY PAPERBACKS) (Paperback)
I am totally re-writing my original review, as I had only just purchased the book for my husband's birthday when Amazon asked me to do my review, and I had not read it. The book was for my husband to read during our holiday in Malta. He doesn't read often, and rarely non-fiction. He was totally absorbed by this book - read it cover to cover, and was very moved by the stories told within it. The memoires run in chronological order and include photographic records from the people the author interviewed.
What made it more poignant is that we know an ex-serviceman who served on the Warspite. We have often listened to his wartime memories, but have never taken in the details. He and the thousands of brave men/women who fought in those years; the merchant seamen who lost their lives in those years; and the families on Malta who suffered in those years are really owed a great debt.
