This review is from: When the Wind Blows [VHS] (VHS Tape)I first saw this at Glastonbury in 1987. I had read the superb book by Raymond Briggs, and was keen to see the film. Nothing prepred me for the impact of this film, animation can convey emotions and nuances much better than actors can, and the steady demise of Jim and Hilda throughout the film is achingly sad. This is countered with the naive belief they both have that help will come and that the government will be there for them. The ending of the film will make anyone think about what nuclear war will mean as the couple climb into their potato sacks and prepare to die. As Hilda says so poigniantly "No more Jim, no more".
Show this to your children, watch it yourself and ask yourself could it still happen?
