This review is from: I'Ll Never Fall In Love / Very Dionne / Dionne / Just Being Myself (Audio CD)
The fourth and last (at least for now) in Edsel's series of reissues of Dionne Warwick's music, this maintains the expected standard, again featuring a mix of familiar and unfamiliar songs.Dionne was first to record I'll never fall in love again, but her record was not released at the time. It was released somewhat later, and her version only became an American top 10 pop hit because Bobbie Gentry's version (a UK #1 hit) was not released as a single in America.
The track listing makes clear that Let it be me was originally a French song (Je T' Appartiens) but it seems that the compilers didn't know that My way also began as a French song (Comme d' habitude). Still, I love Dionne's version of this song. Other familiar songs include Raindrops keep falling on my head, Close to you, We've only just begun, Something and Yesterday.
Among the songs I don't remember hearing before is one called Amanda, but I didn't hear Amanda mentioned in the song. Strange. It was a minor American hit, but might have done better with a different title if I'm right that Amanda isn't mentioned in the song.
I don't know why Edsel chose to end the series here, as there are three more Warner albums after those featured here. However, maybe all will become clear in due course. By releasing this double CD and the three earlier volumes, Edsel have already tempted me to buy more of Dionne's music than I intended, and have whetted my appetite for more.
This is yet another great double CD. Edsel may release more of Dionne's music but not as part of this series. We'll see what happens.
