Lifting the lid on the real Patrick,

This review is from: It Came from Outer Space Wearing an RAF Blazer!: A Fan's Biography of Sir Patrick Moore (Paperback)
I believe Martin Mobberley's account is superb. With Patrick Moore's autobiography of 2003 ('80 Not Out') being thoroughly incomplete, it has been a brave decision by Martin Mobberley to write and publish a "no-stone unturned" account of the late Sir Patrick Moore. The characters contained within the book are well known to the astronomical community; but what Martin Mobberley achieves is a balance of reason but setting the record straight on a number of fronts.
Be prepared for new evidence, shocks, laughter, crying and even being angry. The full emotional and sensory responses are felt by the reader of this brave biography. Martin came to know Patrick through and through. He has researched and interviewed so many people associated with Patrick down the years; hence my opinion that the balance is spot on.
So in summary, we now have a definitive account of the real Patrick Moore - evidence presented, judgement made. It is billed as a "fan's biography" and Martin Mobberley is true to his word. Weighing everything up, Martin has the right to publish his research. I will say from the outset, the book is an enthralling read and one I just couldn't put down from start to finish even as the shocks played out against the accolades.
