This review is from: Sacrificium: La scuola dei Castrati (Audio CD)
I have 3 other Cecilia Bartoli CDs, and I absolutely love all 3... I'm so, so disappointed with Sacrificium, however - it's just froth. If this had been the first CD of hers that I'd bought it would also be the last. I'd already read some adverse reviews about it, but I thought it was maybe the reviewers themselves who were not accustomed to the distinctive Bartoli style, and maybe the first time they'd dipped their toes into Baroque music... but, Sacrificium is awful. The music itself is, as others have said, mostly forgettable and, I'm sorry to say, Cecilia's performance is pretty much the same. She's often accused of overkill in many aspects of her art, but I love that and the frisson she creates is, quite simply, thrilling - but not on this, her performance is annoying which then becomes exceedingly dull. This CD will just gather dust.

This disc is dedicated to castratos but it doesn't mean to musically castrated listeners who can't appreciate it.

A. Dawson says:
Good grief man, you must be deaf; you are a voice in the wilderness, see the other reviews. The music is great, the playing of the orchestra is great, the singing is great. This is a desert island disc; thrilling and full of emotion and passion throughout.
