A little exploitative,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Skylanders Giants Lightcore Hex Character Pack (Accessory)
Although my kids really enjoy the Skylanders games, I only purchased "Skylanders Swap Force: Limited Edition - Hex Character Pack" because it came free with Skylanders SwapForce if you pre-ordered. Otherwise, for the original selling price of £49.99 this character pack would not have been bought. The Hex figure may well be compatible with Swap Force but is actually a Skylanders Giants character with no swappable parts. All in all, a rather misleading piece of marketing.
I don't know if the pricing was set by Amazon or by Activision, but given how popular the game is with children - this price is probably beyond the pocket money of most, so it does feel rather exploitative. On top of that, these figures get snapped up and resold at rather inflated prices. It's not illegal to do that of course, but it does leave a bad taste in the mouth.

I think you missed the point. This was intended as a pre-order "bonus". I do not believe that it was intended to be sold separately (although it is). It is a reward from Activision for saying thank you for pre-ordering the game to try and help initial sales of the game on launch day. This is common practice in the video game industry. I pre-ordered the game back in August when the offer was not around, I then got an email telling me this was introduced. This is a freebie.
Regarding the point that it is not swappable, that is true, but in the starter pack you also get Ninja Stealth elf and thats not swappable. There are in-fact more non-swappable characters in swap force than there there are swappable. 40 non swappable and 16 swappable (excluding variants).
Further to this, if you know the game, it is easily identifiable that the figure is a "giants" character due to the orange base as can be clearly seen on the image. I appreciate that not everyone will know this though but you seem quite knowledgeable on the subject.

MJ I take your point about it being a bonus offer, but I still hold to the view that this could have been handled a lot better. I am familiar with the way the videogame industry operates . If it truly had been a "reward" from Activision, then bundle it properly, don't allow solo sales (and Amazon were not alone in this) at almost the same price as the new game.
