This review is from: The Tony Bennett Bill Evans Album (Audio CD)
This disc was a bit of a let down. I had hoped that it would be good old vintage Tony Bennett but I didn't like Bill Evans style of playing -much too fancy for me. Hence Tony Bennett's efforts were made less attractive than his best. If you like smooth sweet Tony Bennett this is not the disc for you.

I don't agree. I have almost everything Bennett has recorded and also love the "smooth sweet Tony Bennett", and this album is one of the highlights of his (and Evans') career.
A masterpiece of understated vocals and playing that appears to be wasted on some!

I can see why a Tony fan would be feeling let down by this recording - at first ! If you are used to (and expecting more of) his usual style and big production values etc this would be a shock to the ears , plus Bill Evans tends to do his own thing a lot (one reason i and many others love the album though !).
One can only hope that the original reviewer caught some of the beauty and magic of Tonys voice on this one , he never sung better , and was drawn back to , and eventually came to love , this remarkable and wondrous release !
