When did Issy turn into a pathetic wimp?,
This review is from: Christmas at the Cupcake Café (Hardcover)
I absolutely loved the first book and eagerly awaited it's sequel therefore I can't tell you how disappointing this instalment was.
The plot is achingly slow to get going- id go so far a to say that it's dull and deeply implausible. I had to force myself to keep reading out of hope that it would dramatically improve..it didn't.
Even the recipes didn't compliment the book in the way the first book had.
Issy seems to have changed into a boring, deeply naive and insecure idiot who is unable to make a single independent decision- I actually wanted to shout at her.
Austin and his move to America is beyond stereotypical and completely ridiculous with the overbearing boss and the perfect but difficult secretary.
Normally the author manges to capture just enough of reality and fiction to make her books so compelling- not this time. Not sure I'll bother with a third instalment- which it is very clunkily set up for. Ohhh cupcakes in New York? how unoriginal. This smacks of a cash cow approach.
