An Excellent Investigation,

This review is from: Watermelons: How Environmentalists are Killing the Planet, Destroying the Economy and Stealing Your Children's Future (Paperback)Delingpole does not contest that there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than there was 40yrs ago. Nor does he contest that the planet's climate can and does change.
What he contests is how data relating to CO2 increases has been cleverly and dishonestly manipulated, by a leftist conspiracy, to present a gloomy - and untrue - picture of man's future on the planet that justifies ever-increasing taxation and regulation of individual citizens. Delingpole asserts that the concept of 'climate change' has been distorted to perpetrate an enormous, and disquieting, fraud on every man, women and child in the world.
This book is basically an investigation into how it has come to pass that governments - and institutions and other authorities - have decreed that they must control the behaviour of, take untold $1000s from global citizens/tax-payers. These measures are considered necessary in order to mitigate alleged damage to the environment that has been supposedly caused by an increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that it is claimed has raised the temperature of the planet.
Delingpole has conducted an immaculate forensic examination into the history of the issue, delving back many decades, masterfully tying together many varied threads in the process. Moreover, he substantiates his points, and condemns those he accuses with their own words. The position he adopts is entirely supported by facts - something he accuses his opponents of wilfully ignoring. Delingpole believes that pure science has been hijacked and bastardised by political interests/activists, for ideological reasons, for power, for their self-aggrandisement and for their self-enrichment.
Despite the serious and sometimes depressing nature of the book, it is written in a very witty and easily digestible style, and I was able to finish it in 4-5 sessions. The work opens up further avenues of exploration, for example, the role of the UN in attempting to procure global government to control resources and population levels. Sounds improbable? Read the book.
Ultimately Delingpole believes that this fraud cannot be perpetually sustained, as the force of nature itself and the fundamentally goodness and inventiveness of the human race will eventually combine to thwart the dark ambitions of those who seek to reduce the wealth and liberties of individuals..........and in some cases to forcibly reduce the population of the planet.
Personally, I was a 'climate realist' before reading the book, and remain so.
Sometimes conspiracy theories are truly compelling.
Congratulations to James Delingpole on a stunning achievement...................he can look his heroes in the eye, and sup' at the same table.
