Norton anthology review,
This review is from: The Norton Anthology of Poetry (Paperback)
This is a great way of getting into poetry when you haven't read much up till now. It starts with early stuff and goes right through with I suppose an accent on American poets, some of whom I've never heard of. But there are plenty of British poets in there too. And it's good to see a wide range of women poets including Charlotte Smith who is one of my favourite Romantic period poets. Yes, she holds her own alongside the men.
I've just been renewing my acquaintance with Elizabeth Bishop which has sent me to look at her complete poems. You can always fault anthologies for leaving out poets you think ought to be there, but that doesn't spoil the poems that are in the anthology.
