Bond is back on track,

This review is from: Skyfall [DVD] (DVD)
When Daniel Craig first made his appearance as Bond on Casino Royale, the producers of the franchise decided that Bond needed to be revamped. Craig made the character of Bond more real, believable, colder and darker. He was a breath of fresh air. The film had a great story, no silly gadgets or scenarios. The gamble worked and CR was a huge hit - and rightfully so.
However the follow-up, 'Quantum of Solace' was a disappointment. Craig did his best, but not only was he fighting against a rather forgettable villain, he was also fighting against a not-so-good script and a difficult to follow story. The producers also stripped Bond back to the basics - to the extent the film didn't feel like a Bond film. It was just a bog standard spy thriller.
So we move on to Skyfall. Its quite clear that EON Productions had learnt from their mistakes with Quantum and drafted in the legend that is Sam Mendes to resurrect Bond. And he's succeeded. Its clear Mendes is a huge Bond fan. Skyfall is without question, one of the best Bond films ever made. Its as good as Casino Royale - if not better.
Craig is on top form and his supporting cast are excellent too. Its also good to see Q back, plus there are a few nice surprises in the film. It has a small amount of humour - but not too much to make things silly. Furthermore, its nice to see that a lot of the movie was filmed in the UK. The villain (Silva) is truly excellent.
It has a good script/storyline. It explores areas that haven't been addressed in Bond films before - such as Bond's mental state and whether the world needs agents like Bond in the field any more. After all, we now have spy satellites, the internet and drones.
In conclusion, this is an absolute must-see movie. Its going to be interesting to see what the next instalment will be like. The problem is that because this film is so good, it may be difficult to match or top it.
