Delivers what it says on the cover!,
This review is from: Graphic Ink: The DC Comics Art of Frank Quitely HC (Hardcover)
This book delivers what it says on the cover, namely a collection of more than 360 pages of Frank Quietly's DC Comics work. It is a fine collection printed in full colour, heavy stock paper and in large format which really allows you the opportunity to admire the work. However, it isn't an art book in the generally accepted sense but is instead an anthology of Frank's comics work. There is limited editorial content to support the collection and whilst there are some rarities, much of the collection is pretty well known. From my perspective, I already have most of the strips presented here including in high end formats and so from my personal view, this doesn't deliver much more. Strips included include extracts from Batman & Robin, Batman: Scottish Connection, the Kingdom Come sequel, the Invisibles and the Sandman. As an anthology rather than an art book, I think it suffers a little as the writing on some of the strips presented is pretty variable. However, if you assess it as an art book, it is pretty good albeit that it would have been nice to have some commentary.
