Great camera let down by terrible reliability,
This review is from: Kodak PlaySport Zx5 Full HD 1080P, Waterproof, Dustproof and Shockproof - Black (Camera)
I have now had two of Zx5 cameras (one red and one black) which both suffered from exactly the same 'freezing' problem which required the camera to be reset using a pin/paperclip. Unfortunately the last one also suffered from the catches on the memory card and charging/reset covers seizing up such that I could no longer open and reset the camera, which left the only option to let it discharge itself and to return it for a refund - there is no chance I would try another...
Real shame as I loved the style, speed of start up, functionality and quality of the photos and videos taken. I would happily have written a 5 star review, but unfortunately, what is the point of a good camera if it is totally unreliable.

Hi, Exactly the same as me! Had 2 Zx5's and both faulty, both returned to Amazon. Such a shame, as I also love the camera, but enough is enough. I'll have a look around to see if there is an alternative.

I've had the problem with catches, and this is simply a mechanical issue of them needing some grease. Water over time washes it away. Keep the hinges and catches oiled once in a while and it won't let you down.

I have to support this review totally. A great piece of kit well worth 5 stars, but the continual freezing (even with the latest firmware download) and the 'doors' on both sides seizing up after using underwater take this from 5 stars to one star. I also found mine stopped working completely after a few days of using for snorkelling, and it would not turn on at all.
Its all very well getting an offer of a refund for faulty goods, but I bought one for a 'holiday of a lifetime' to the Maldives, and my request for a refund of the total holiday costs was met with a stoney silence.
The moral - great functionality and pictures when it works, but medium to long term reliability is very poor, and what ever you do, don't rely on it for anything important.
