5.0 out of 5 stars Bought for Sony Alpha A65, 7 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Sony External Flash Unit HVLF43AM (Accessory)
I bought 2 of these for my Sony Alpha SLT A65. And it works great! For the price, it is an amazing flash! Love the rubber directly beneath the flash casing. Shows they really thought about the durability and quality.

Build quality is excellent. I love they it feels strong, rigid and heavy when adjusting the flash head.

It includes a small stand, so you can put the flashguns anywhere you like. Directly beneath the tripod stand is a small screw hole. This means you won't have to buy additional tripod adapter or mounts for the flash guns. It will fit on any ordinary tripod that is screw based. Extremely pleased with that!

Minor drawback:

The small stand is made entirely of plastic. But the stand itself i of high quality. The stand folds in half, and makes a strong 'click' noise. Put your finger there and it will hurt! Quality yet again.

Detached flashgun will only fire if the built-in flash is out. Not really bothered about that can adjust build-in flash power for low key photos.

Definitely recommend!

I too found the fact that needing the front flash to fire was an issue if you are close to the subject (less than 2-3 metres).

But I worked out that if you are that close to the subject, the wireless always still works even if you put your hand between the built-in flash and the subject. Just angle your palm at a wall or reflector bahind you that will reflect back to the 43, and the 43 will pick it up.
If thats not feasible, then you can just up the shutter (as the wireless burst is very dim anyway)

Over about 3 metres, the popup flash burst doesnt affect the composition (as its very low power)
