UNRELIABLE - AVOID!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Zyxel 500Mbps Micro Slimline Powerline Adapter (Twin Pack) (Accessory)
--- RECENT EXPERIENCE ---
I bought this a little under a year ago; after initial testing I didn't use it that much, my children did. After about nine months, one unit failed entirely. I returned it and thankfully got a refund. Having read some of the recent reviews here, I will not buy ZyXel again.
--- ORIGINAL REVIEW ---
I recently bought two of these beauties from in2digital through Amazon. Delivery was as usual, faster than promised and I would happily recommend them to others.
With the two tiny ZyXel 500Mbps Powerline Adapters plugged side-by-side into a double socket in my 1st floor study, using LAN Speed Test v1.1.7 accessing data on a local PC with different data file sizes, I achieved 58 Mbps on 20 MB of data & 62 Mbps with 200 MB.
With the same laptop downstairs in the kitchen, on the same mains fuse box I achieved 50 Mbps & 53 Mbps respectively.
In the living room where my AV setup is located, running between two different mains fuse boxes, one a 20 year old RCD box and the other a much older fuse wire box with associated ancient wiring and socket, I still consistently achieve 24 Mbps on both data file sizes (not using mains cables connected through a single fuse box is specifically discouraged!).
Hard-wired to my ADSL router, using Speedtest.net, I achieve 18 Mbps.
So, whilst significantly less that 500 Mbps, these devices are faster than my internet connection, even in the worst possible circumstance, so really, who cares?
