Even my son liked it!,
This review is from: Classic Knits for Men: 27 Plus Original Handknit Designs with Rowan Yarns (Paperback)
All too often these pattern books prove a bit of a disappointment, and there's very little that you feel inspired to try, but this is one of the best collections I have bought and there isn't much in here that I wouldn't want to make.
Best of all, my 25-year old son - who normally wouldn't consider anything that didn't have a designer labelled attached - actually picked out one of the cardigans as highly desirable, in the original colours.
There's an excellent range to suit all ages and tastes, but with a young feel to them. The colours may be muted (personally, I love the natural tones), but there's nothing dowdy here. The photographs are excellent, showing the whole garment as well as close-ups of the detail of the clothing, rather than the models, and the instructions are set out clearly.
UK/European terminology is used throughout, with US needle sizes given in brackets. The sock sizes are given in inches and centimetres to avoid having to translate between UK/continental/US sizes.
Most of the patters are for jackets, cardigans and jumpers (sweaters), but there are patterns for scarves and a beanie hat as well. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to tackle the Fair Isle waistcoat design just yet, but there are plenty of uncomplicated patterns using only one or two colours and interesting stitch work, so I don't think that will be a problem.
