1.0 out of 5 stars DVD sound silent, 26 Sept. 2013
This review is from: Sonos PLAYBAR Soundbar and Wireless Speaker (Electronics)
We have bought this speaker and thought we had a fault, having seen the previous post we have investigated and sure enough the product doesnt support DTS sound. Incredible seeing as all DVD's are pretty much DTS now. Not the all encompassing system that Sonos says it is !

This is what makes Amazon such a great place to gain an understanding of the product before you spend £600 of your hard earned cash on something that does not completely meet your requirements. The fact it does not support DTS is clearly mentioned in a number of posts.

As I have commented elsewhere there is a imminent software update for the whole Sonos system coming up early November and everyone who currently owns one of these is holding their breath in the hope that DTS support is added. My understanding is that this is a software issue rather than a hardware limitation.

The Playbar does a whole raft of things. It allows streaming of on-line music services, connects to your PC or NAS to play your own music library and works as a soundbar for your TV. It works as a network switch allowing internet connection to things like your Sky box or Blu ray player. It does all of these really well. It is simple to set up and can be expanded to provide a full 5.1 system. With the addition of the new Play 1's that are due any day now the cost of the full system is going to come down. Giving it one star simply for not supporting DTS seems a little harsh.

I would like to thank the reviewer for rating with one star. This may be a great system and I was almost sold, but with such a major flaw it negates the whole point of investing in the system. If I had shelled out 600 quid for this system and not been able to use it with DVD's/Blue Rays then I would have been raging! I was attracted to the 1 star reviews as there were only two. Now that I know about this flaw I will hold off on purchasing until I hear of a software update to resolve this problem. Or I will look at other similar products. Thanks for the warning!

Me too, I was also going to splash out £600 on Sonos system.
Will look at more conventional systems.

Just a quick update. Sonos have just announced that they do not intend to update the firmware on the Playbar to support DTS. It has been marked as under consideration on the asksonos forum for over a year and has finally been changed to not planned. If DTS support is important to you as a potential buyer then the Playbar is not the product for you.
