Well I was really sceptical, especially when I saw the generic must have tough girl cover, I thought, here we go same old same old - how wrong I was. . Won't go in to the storyline too much as the gist has already been covered & I don't want to give any spoilers, but what I will say, it draws you in, intelligently written & our two main protagonists Miranda & David, have a fragile chemistry that takes a natural progression through the book. Yes this is a love story, but also has an intense plot with dark undertones, decapitation throughout & some themes covered may upset. It certainly made me cringe & empathise, but the writing is not overly gratuitous in violence sex or subject matter. Light and dark evenly balanced, no cliff hangers you get a whole story, with intriging characters.
Between 4 to 5 stars for me, really enjoyed 'Queen of Shadows' hopefully more will follow..
Reminded me subtley of Stacia Kanes 'Holy Series' as in mixing dark & gritty storylines with romance, & I found it like a darker version of Lynn Viehls Kyndred series, think of those two authors & put Dianne Sylvan somewhere in the middle, she's very hard to place & I mean that as a compliment....
