the place between worlds,
This review is from: Story as Sharp as a Knife (Masterworks of the Classical Haida Mythtellers) (Paperback)
here is a book that has taken me on a journey into a different time and culture and has accompanied me all the way, pointing out key landmarks and the sometimes hidden aspects of beauty and subtle detail.
As a storyteller, i have learnt so much from the haida understandings of tradition and heritage as described by the author. bringhurst confronts head-on the difficulty of rendering oral narrative in text and translation. he carries the reader on this journey in the same spirit as swanton first took down these precious narratives - standing behind, not in front of, the story. respectfully pointing beyond himself to another.
a special book that opens the mind and the understanding of the heart.
