The author is (was?) a Doctor in the RN and has compiled a fairly comprehensive dictionary of the unusual and inventive vocabulary used by the sailors of today's Royal Navy. As well as explaining the meaning and use of the words he gives some glimpse as to their derivation.
If I have any critique it is that the Fleet Air Arm are over credited as the source of many words though this is probably a reflection of where the author served most of his time. Still, this doesn't detract from the book.
