This review is from: The Book of Fate (Hardcover)
I have read Meltzer before and I have yet to find consistency of quality - some books have been great and others, like this one, have been particularly ordinary.
A friend of the American President is "killed" during a motorcade shooting only to re-appear many years later. The hype would have it that a conspiracy involving a two hundred year old secret and Masonic history are at the heart of this mystery. What we get, in fact, is a long-winded chase by a Presidential aide, also badly injured at the time of the shooting, trying to discover what really went down. Naturally, the FBI, CIA and Secret Service are all involved in some way; we also have rogue agents as well as a psycho on the loose.
It is true the book moves really well, has you turning the pages and has its share of surprises. But if you have turned to this in the belief that something like a "Da Vinci Code" may be in the offing, you will have been mis-led. 7/10
